No rushing required. Mornings are for work. Our first evening is the glowing lagoon. Sunday to Tuesday have nothing planned. Saturday is the one full day out.

A few more possibilities. These don’t count toward the main checklist.

BEFORE WE GO

Just a little planning

Getting around. There’s no Uber or DiDi here: taxi unions keep them out. Taxis are cash only, with no meters, so agree the price before getting in. Colectivos (shared taxis and pickups) run along the coast road for about 8–12 pesos.

Taxi prices from La Punta. Within La Punta and Zicatela about 50 pesos (up to 80 at night). Rinconada, Carrizalillo, Puerto Angelito or Bacocho about 80–150 (up to 150–200 at night); if a driver says 250, 150 is plenty. Airport booth taxi 250–350, fixed. Mazunte 800–1,100 one way, or 1,300–1,600 return with waiting. Manialtepec: the night tours include pickup.

Book ahead. The lagoon boat for our first night, and the Mazunte tour or driver, including the ride home.

Sicarú is in La Punta. Nothing here needs to become a race.

Support local women

If you can afford to and would like to, consider donating to Red Nacional de Refugios to support women and children experiencing domestic violence.

I don’t receive any money or commission from these donations. Supporting local women matters to me, and this is one small way to give back to the places I visit. It takes all of us to stand against gender-based and domestic violence.
